Walking through a Tutorial on the Girls' Toys

Well, several of you tickled my funny bone by telling me you had never heard of these:

Zhu-Zhu pets are the BEST pets in the universe because they require very little care (read just change out a battery) and provide hours of entertainment, unless you have a dog that thinks they are animal crackers!  Just ask my friend Jen over at From Mess Hall to Bistro!  YIKES!!!!  Lots of fun, and no cedar chips or multiple births to worry about!  DANG! Gotta love that!

I was like many of you out there, just a few years ago, clueless about Dora, Handy Manny, and The Doodlebops.  With that in mind, I am taking it as my personal duty to introduce those of you without the chaos and calamity pitter-patter of little feet to what fun you are missing!

First, the big hit of Christmas Eve at our house:  Pillow Pets!  Tall Guy keeps trying to put his foot down about NO MORE STUFFED ANIMALS IN THE HOUSE, but his big ol' feet are not quite big enough.  Both girls wanted these F.O.R.E.V.E.R (which is about two months in the world of 6 & 8 year olds!), so one bought the other one a pillow pet for Christmas.  How slick is that?

Penguin and Unicorn have a little Velcro strap that lets us fold their tummies together for a head rest, or you can lay them flat to use as a pillow!  WOO!

Now the next big hit came from the Big Guy in the Red Suit Himself!  Tink had been wanting to ask Santa for a DS for the past two years, but we thought she wasn't quite ready for it, and neither was Little Bear.  This year, they both seemed to outgrow their Leapster L-Max games, so Santa got the green light.

I'm not sure what DS even stands for, and I cannot say I know much more about them than how to turn them on, but the girls are going to town on them with games that are fun AND educational.  The DSi has a camera built in with lots of fun graphic options so the girls can make your face or tush look nothing like the original version!  Kind of scary, but they are having a blast with their new-found photo ops!

Last, we have Squinkies!

Lordy!  I'm not sure what the exact draw is here, but these LITTLE do-das have captured the imagination of our girls.  Most of them have little holes on their bottoms so they can attach to a ring or bracelet.

They are cute, all big-eyed and squishy.  If they keep the girls from begging to watch Zack and Cody or Hannah Montana, I'm happy with them!

Looks like there is some sisterly bonding going on here, so these toys have done their jobs!  Any questions?  Send them my way!

  1. Wow Lana.... Thanks for the toy education... I am one who needed it... There are no more little ones in our lives these days ---so I'm totally out-of-the-loop....

Great toys --and I'd love one of those Pillow Pets... I NEVER outgrew stuffed animals!!!! ha

  2. zhu zhu pets i'd heard of, but those squiggie things i haven't. you're right-sisterly bonding and not watching tv...perhaps i should give those tiny things more credit!

  3. We have all of this except the squinkies. I am not showing this to my daughter, or else she will want those too!

  4. My son keeps asking me for a pet mouse (ew!!) I don't think so! The zhu zhu's I could do.

  5. My son keeps asking me for a pet mouse (ew!!) I don't think so! The zhu zhu's I could do.

  6. I keep thinking there's surely nothing new to come up with...but then along come Squinkies??? Why didn't we think of that?

Love the photos of the girls. :-)

  7. Lol, we got the mouse too, two of them! Lil Ms. treats them like they are real! Talking to em, calling for em, even made a bed for the darn things! Their names are Fred and Ethel.

Out for a little hopping, following you now.

Come by Lucy's when you get a chance. http://closertolucy.blogspot.com

  8. I am following you as part of the blog hop. Please, follow me back at www.madamedeals.com or on facebook Madame Deals, INC, Goggle Friends, or twitter. Thank you, Amee

  9. Just found your blog from a link on Prairy Mother!

My kids have pillow pets too and they LOVE them! They actually use them as their regular pillows.

I don't get the whole Squinky thing either but for some reason they are the big thing right now. My husband and I told our 4 year old if she can keep her pull-up dry at night for a week we'd reward her with a bunch of squinkies.... I just hope the vaccuum doesn't find them!

  10. oh and the Zhu Zhu Pets are my favorite! Since Christmas we've got about 8 of them running around the house now... so fun!! My 21 month old son thinks they're a riot!

I like your style, I'm going to start following your blog.

  11. So funny how our kids love the same toys....We got the pillow pets, DS, Zhu-Zhu pets, and Squinkees this year for Christmas at our house. I'm just wondering why I didn't think of creating/selling Squinkees first!
