Ok, I realize this is from the same girl who posted this lovely paragraph yesterday on her Facebook page:
Breaking news: The Pity Train has derailed at the intersection of Suck It Up & Move On and crashed into We All Have Problems before coming to a complete stop at Get Over It. Reporting LIVE from Quitchur Fussin. If you like this... re-post to your status!
BUT!!!!!!!! I really do not want to switch my clocks up an hour this weekend.
SERIOUSLY!!!!!
Why? because when the sun comes up and shines its first rays on New York City, it's still VERY dark at my house. When the sun sets at a lovely 8:30 in the summer time sky of NYC, it is STILL shining brightly at my house, and my girls' bedroom window faces the west. Don't even tell me about black-out shades. They still know the sun is shining, and they do not want to go to bed at 8:30! Not even at 9:30! It truly does not get dark enough for fireworks on the 4th of July until 10:00. As a reference, Indiana used to NOT change our time at any point during the year. We were like Arizona and kept our time year around. I liked it; it made sense to me.
I believe that any business man/woman who cannot figure out what time it is at my house should not be in business. I have to share this scene from one of my favorite shows The West Wing. It takes place in Indiana, and as someone who lives ten miles south and east of CST, it so hits a nerve. Anyone who lives near a time zone line will have to laugh out loud like I did when I first saw it. Watch the whole scene to get the total frustration of the characters.
There! I have said it, and now I will feel all better until Monday morning when it's really dark and our girls have to get on the bus in the blackness that New Yorkers call morning! I think I will take the lead of one of these characters and go find myself a big stick and something to beat until I feel better.
I try to meet at least one new blogger a week from other favorite blogs of mine. I found you on Betsy's beautiful blog and am so glad I stopped over. We live in northwest Indiana and are on CST. I still don't like the time change! I do love all the farmland still being farmed in Indiana. We've lived here for over twenty years now and I never cease to enjoy that green corn against a blue sky!
Back to say that we are in Crown Point. I love Chicago and go often but also love this beautiful little city and the slower pace. You are only a county away and I'm sure I drive through on my way to Lafayette.
That is a GREAT clip! :-) I absolutely hate going on and going off DST. It's as bad as jet lag. And it doesn't save anyone anything. Makes me cranky just thinking about it! ;-)
My favorite part is when the newscasters announce with a straight face that as of Monday morning we will have one more hour of daylight. WTHeck? Seriously? If I'm missing something, please explain it slowly to me. An extra hour of daylight? Just like that? Poof?
And we trust these people to report the news?
BTW, I loved the clip. Showed very well the disconnect between those who make decisions and those of us who live in the "flyover zone".
I hear you. It's been so nice driving to work not in total darkness this week and I'm not looking forward to going back as we jump forward! I remember laughing at that West Wing scene too.
Hi Lana, I love the Pity Train quote... Like that statement in my blog today---Just Move-ON... So many people can't get to this place....
About Daylight Savings time, we are on Central time here in TN--and I hate it also... Let's revolt, Lana.. Okay????? BUT--after we revolt, we must 'move on' .... ha ha
HAHAHAHHA this made me crack up.... thanks for the laugh. so sorry you don't want the time change tho..... The two days of the year when the time changes are my 2 LEAST fave days of any year. Just don't like them. Never have never will......nuf said.
I can't believe the sun doesn't set until after 10pm in July! I am SO jealous, but I can definitely see how parents of little ones would not appreciate that, haha. Let's just trade!
Before we entered the whole DST thing, we spent 1/2 the year on the same time as my parents and the other 1/2 on the same time as dh's parents. Now we're always on the same time as mine and always an hour ahead of dh's. So for that consistency, I like it. But it is impossible to get kids to go to bed and it ruined the fun of taking the family for a drive-in movie.
In so totally agree with you!!!! I HATE daylight savings time and I really believe it a secret government plot to keep to keep us all just a little off balanced.

ReplyDeleteI miss the good old days of no time change too. Makes sense to me! Yeah, my kids still sleep with blackout curtains. :)
Good luck this weekend!

Oh I miss that show!!!! GREAT clip! Such great characters!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the time change here as my dogs consistently get us up at 6:00 and I'm anxious for them to wait until 7:00. :)
