Frantic Friday

Well Dang!

I had my rear end up high in the girls' closet for a long time trying to find my album of pictures from London so I could scan some and do a post about fairy tale goings-ons going on this morning in  London!  Westminster was one of my favorite places in London.  It is a beautiful abbey, but the big draw for me was all the historic figures eternally resting within its walls.  Literally in many cases!  Queen Elizabeth I is also entombed in a sarcophagus there.  It is just mind boggling to know who rests there, and who has walked through those hallowed halls.  It kind of makes you stop and think when you see worn places in STONE steps where people have put their feet for over a thousand years!

No luck.  It's just too big of a job to tackle with everything else going on around here!

Congrats to Prince William and his lovely new Princess Katherine.

Now I am off to my vida loca.

What's going on you ask?

If I have all my ducks in a row, I'm supposed to don a Farm Bureau shirt this morning and help with Earth Day at the town park.  We talk to the second graders about sun safety and do a pretty cool little activity with sun beads that monitor exposure to UV rays.  The more sun you have, the brighter the beads get!

The girls' school is hosting a 5K Family Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning, and I'm in the thick of planning.  It's our first one, so after Earth Day my co-chair and I are checking our lists 2-3 times to make sure we have everything good to go by 8:30 tomorrow morning.  That probably includes some set-up stuff tonight!

In the middle of the race Saturday morning, one of us has to get Tink to the church to practice for her First Communion.  That comes on Sunday, so after the race, it's off to pick up the cake, then come home to do damage control inside and mow the yard, at least the parts above the water.

Sunday is First Communion, and I have no clue what to expect.  Tall Guy is Catholic, the girls are being raised Catholic, and I join in where I can with my Methodist background.   We are actually so lucky to have such a smooth combining of religions.  20-30 years ago would have been a different scenario.  Anywho....The mass starts at 1:00, and we are going simple with just a cake and punch afterward for family and godparents.

While this post is unusually lacking pictures, I hope to make up for it on Monday if I get through it all.  I know Tall Guy would love to planting something this weekend, but I am kind of glad he is going to be around to share in all my fun.  I will return the favor as soon as the first field is dry enough to work.

Right now I have to run up and get Tink's "halo" out of the box and let it start unwrinkling.  She said, "Mom!  I need a halo to go with my dress!"  After shaking my head, I gave her the correct word, veil.  Silly girl.  If finding a halo were only that easy.

I hope this Friday finds the sun shining on you.  I know many of my friends in the South have had a terrible week with all the destructive weather.  I pray you and your loved ones are safe and sound!

Have a great weekend everyone!  See you on Monday!

  3. Sounds like such a busy weekend ahead! I hope all goes smoothly. I totally agree with you about Westminster Abbey. My first time there I was privileged to attend the amazing memorial service of the 400th anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth I(March 24, 1603). I love all the pageantry and tradition of the monarchy!

  4. HI Lana, Sounds like you have a busy day/weekend. Congrats to your oldest --for getting to take her First Communion. Glad that you can 'combine' the two denominations...

We didn't see the big wedding since it happened about 3-4 am our time. BUT--I've watched some of it on TV this morning. LOVE Kate's dress... It is gorgeous.

Have a good weekend and take some time for YOU...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. I'm with you on enjoying Westminster Abbey. I remember standing at Charles Dickens' grave in Poet's Corner and thinking how much he did not want to be buried there!! Wasn't it lovely with those trees?

I had lunch with my farming friend (well, her husband is a farmer) today. They still have not been able to plant their thousand plus acres of corn and soybeans yet. Today is sunny. Maybe soon. Nothing worse than a frustrated farmer!!

    Best,
    Bonnie

  8. I'm reading backwards and just saw that you're not Catholic, though your dh and girls are. So I'm curious to hear what you thought of First Communion.
