Hunk of Meat Monday: The Wrap!

First, a big thank you to Miss Leah for telling I shared in the inspiration for her post today.  On a Monday morning, it's nice to hear you inspired someone in a positive way!  Not sure Tink and Bear would chime in after the seven minutes I spent "inspiring" them to get out of bed this morning!

Anywho.....It's almost time for us to head out in to the fields to plant.  Tall Guy and his dad have already spent time in the tractor working ground that we "ripped" (it's a very deep plow that picks the ground up and sets it back down without turning it over.  Sounds crazy, but it helps put more moister back in the ground and loosen it up from all the heavy driving of semis and combines).  Usually we rip end rows and any place where there was a water issue, think deep cracks and hard ground.

Now when we head out, most of the time the guys do not come back to the house for lunch, so I am in chuck wagon mode.  This year I am trying to find healthier recipes than ham and cheese sandwiches and potato chips.  I thought I would share one today that uses turkey.  Miss Katie, my RFOA friend over at On the Banks of Squaw Creek, would like that I think!

Here's my concoction of a healthy Turkey Wrap:

Here is all the stuff!  I'm telling you right now that my Tall Guy was a bit concerned about eating hummus and and spinach on his "wrap."  Heck!  He was suspicious about the whole shebang!  He is a white bread boy with mayo (Miracle Whip) and Velveeta and some meat slapped all together!

Sun-dried tomato basil tortillas are outside his comfort zone! And Look MA!  No lard!  DANG!  :-)

Here comes the humus!

I sprinkled a bit of this dressing on for a bit more flavor!

Is there anyone out there besides me who squeezes and squeezes the dang bottle then remember to look inside to see if it is sealed?  UGH!

Now who thought it was a good idea to cover Popeye's face with a sticker?  SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!

Ah.... cheese!

I used oven roasted and smoked turkey breast!

Now sometimes you have to hold your mouth just right to roll these puppies up, but....Ta Da!

Yeah, I took pitty on Tall Guy and threw in some chips.   I can't expect him to go healthy cold turkey!

gobble gobble gobble! ;-)

Ok,  I'm hooking up with Miss Leah and her Hunk of Meat Monday party.  There isn't a huge chunk of meat in here, but it's enough to get my guy to his next meal!

If you have any easy, healthy pack and go lunch ideas, I would love to hear them!  Gotta keep my farmers fit and in fighting mode for those long hours coming in the tractor!

P.S.  TG DID eat this and thought it was,  "Pretty good."  That means he will get it again! ;-)

Have a great day and I pray these horrible storms over the weekend and to come this week pass over you and your loved ones!

  3. Sounds good, Lana... I have never had Hummus --but my good friend and her hubby LOVE it. I need to try it.

This one does really look healthy.... Did you really get that spinach for .89???? Wow--that's fabulous..
    Hugs,

  4. I admire your husband for trying it - unfortunately I don't know that I could work up the courage to eat hummus!!

  6. This looks yummy! I'd never really thought to use hummus as a sandwich spread, and yes, I do squeeze and squeeze and sometimes hit the bottle on the counter before I remember to remove the seal. Almost every time.
