Hunk of Meat Monday: Tongue or "I Probably Should Have Quit While I Was Ahead, But....."

We had such an AWESOME time at the State Fair!  Can't wait to share it all with  you, but until I get all that together, here's something you might find amusing, even though I have a feeling my girls will hold this one over my head for years to come!

I have had this post in my head for so long..... I was going to traipse over to Tall Guy's mom's house, she was going to pull out her pressure cooker, and we were going to demonstrate how to cook cow tongue to perfection....but

I ran out of time, like usual, so I shipped it off with G-pa, and, bless her heart, G-ma cooked it right up and sent it back to us.  Tall Guy just about did a full blown happy dance because he LOVES this delicacy.   I have to admit that I like it too.  What we weren't sure about was if the girls would eat it, so........

We gave it to them and presented it to them as "beef."  Editor's note:  It does look a bit dry, but that is MY fault because I popped it in the microwave to heat up a bit too long.  G-ma cooked it just right!

And guess what????

I even have proof (if I can get this video thingy to work!)

And then I did the UNTHINKABLE!  I told them what it actually was.......

Sorry about the sideways video and the background sounds.  I am totally an amateur at this, but you get the idea.

This all took place on Facebook, where my children will probably have their final revenge on me when I am old and senile and say stupid things.  The big take away is that things you think you might not like to eat are actually good for you,; HOWEVER,  you would not believe the number of adults that have been totally grossed out (did I just use that 80's phrase?) by the thought of eating tongue.  You very well could eat it at my house, that and chicken gizzards and escargot,  calamari is to squid as escargot is to snails.  That's as crazy as I will go though.

In hind-sight, it might be a better idea to wait a bit for the big reveal, like ten or twelve years.  It's been a post that definitely has people on one side of the fence or the other.  Not too many sitting on the top of this one.

While I have been a bit absent on my blog, I have been trying to chat with everyone on Facebook.  I will do better to make that page more up to date and transfer stuff from there to here when it fits into the blog idea.

Hugs and Love to everyone.  School starts on WEDNESDAY!  I used to do my kind of grumpy, sad, where-the-heck-has-the-summer-gone teacher shuffle, but I'm now embracing the Mommy Happy Dance.  It's time for my country girls to get back with their friends.

  1. Aww. There has been a problem with the video, but based on the pictures, I can tell that your girls liked the beef so much. It’s great that they loved it, as beef is rich in protein and phosphorous, which will definitely help your children prevent weariness and have healthy teeth and bones. =)

  3. Haha! I think I’ll also say “Eeeww!” once I knew that I ate cow tongue. I’m not fond of eating that part of the cow since I just hate the idea of eating a tongue. Anyways, I guess it depends on how it was cooked and how my tastebuds will love the dish, and I guess I now know better what cow’s tongue is after eating it. :)
